Welcome to Steve RatzlaffWe are very pleased to have our good friend Pastor Steve Ratzlaff with us this morning. Steve is the pastor of Mennonite Community Church in Fresno. Previously he enjoyed long pastoral stays at Seattle Mennonite Church and at First Mennonite Church in Lincoln, Nebraska. Steve has been passionately involved in an array of peace and social justice concerns for many years. Recently he published a book,7 Steps to End War & Save the Planet, which is an energetic argument for pacifist approaches to addressing vexing problems in our world. Steve is married to Lynette and they have two children, Amber and Chris. Chris married Heidi early this past summer.
Thank youfor choosing to worship with us this morning. If you are visiting with us today we ask that you sign the guest book at the back of the church and that you please accept a small gift prepared just for you. The gift can be found in a basket on the back table!

Joys, Concerns, PrayersThe children and young people of our church bring us all great joy. Many of them have recently returned to school. Some of our older children are back in college, and others still have a little more summer to live before classes begin. For all our children, young and old, we give thanks to God, and we pray for them much wisdom as they grow in knowledge and understanding of the world we all share together.

The Milagro Beanfield War.
Residents of a New Mexico agricultural community face a crisis almost without a stir, until a young, unemployed father of four begins to irrigate his father's parched bean field. The ensuing struggle against state politics and big business interests over water for crops is a war of competing values and competing definitions of what makes a community rich.
